Our Story
Evergreen Community Church began in January of 2001. Since that time, we have been through three distinct phases of growth and development.

The House Church: During this time, from January 2001 through November 2001, a core group of 6 people met at Ed Palpant’s home. This group soon grew to a core group of 35 people, including Evergreen’s first worship leader, Michelle Hunter. Click here to learn more about this formative stage.

The Theater Church: Evergreen Community Church held its first Sunday worship service in November 2001, in the Raleigh Grande movie theater. Many ministries began in this time, including a full children’s and youth ministry. Michelle Hunter continued as worship leader for a time, and then Chris Daughtry was our worship leader. After he left, we hired Charles and Annette Newkirk as our worship leaders. Click here to learn more about this stage.
The Greenhouse Facility: In September of 2003, Evergreen’s youth ministry was running out of room, so a facility off Westgate road was rented. This facility provided permanent office space, as well as a game room for the middle and high school ministries. The Greenhouse is still an important part of Evergreen, although it is currently incorporated into the main building.

The Glenwood Avenue Church: In 2008, Evergreen was blessed to be able to purchase 6904 Glenwood Avenue to use as a permanent meeting space. The Greenhouse facility on Westgate road was closed out and incorporated into the new space. Half of the building is currently leased to other businesses, and the half which Evergreen uses was extensively remodeled. We definitely put a lot of sweat equity into this location!
